Childbirth Education.
My purpose in teaching childbirth education is not to show one way of coping with labor, medication and early childcare.  It is to give you, the parent, a body of information which will allow you to create and experience the birth you want for your family.  A person is born only once, so it seems we should honor that solitary experience to the best of our ability.

About Me.
I have birthed three children, three different ways.  Ethan was born by c-section in '94, Esmeree came vaginally with a little medication in '98, and Jayna was an all-natural birth in '01.  I also am blessed with a stepson, Zach, who is nine.  Because I have had three very different birth experiences, I hope to offer a unique perspective:  I can empathize and understand the variety of situations and surprises which occur in pregnancy and birth.  It is my intention that by sharing my journeys and my professional knowledge, you will ensure for yourselves and your babies, a safe birth imbued with Pure Joy!

Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin.

This book is so amazing, I can't say enough about it.  It was written by a true flower child of the seventies, who is still an active women's health advocate.  She is a direct-entry midwife, and this book tells of her beginnings.  It is part historical, part biography, part medical text, part tear-jerker...I could go on!  It takes a lot of complicated knowledge, simplifies it, and beautifies birthing, bringing it out of the medical paradigm of IVs and monitors (which have their place, of course), and into the realm of nature, spirit and joy.  Contains information on nutrition, coping with contractions, natural labor stimulation, avoiding tearing and episiotomy, and statistical information.  Also lots of photos, diagrams, and many, many personal stories.  INVALUABLE!

A great book for expectant parents and for professionals.
